Postcards for a Good Cause

Today the post office is putting my postcard designs in 2,000 local mailboxes! I delivered Touchable Design’s first direct mail project to the Statesboro post office yesterday, and everything went great!

Direct mail can be a powerful marketing option, so I was excited when my client took my suggestion. Especially since my client is an important local non-profit organization: Youth Career Commission, Inc. I’m happy to have a part in letting more people know about the life-changing career camp they organize every year.

If you have a student who’d like to build the foundation for their future this summer, or if you have a message you’d like to quickly get into a lot of mailboxes, I can help!

A Welcoming Message

The Pittman Park church is situated amidst an expansive lawn peppered with mature magnolia and oak trees. It is directly across the street from the Georgia Southern University campus and near a residential area. One of the best things about the location of this church, however is its station at the corner of two very busy traffic arteries in the town of Statesboro.

The church takes advantage of this location by posting a banner announcing various events throughout the year–cheap and effective advertising! The problem was, they needed a banner to hang during those times when an event wasn’t needing promotion.

I had recently refreshed the Pittman Park branding so they approached me with the task of applying it to this signage. I took the commission as a challenge to present a message beyond a standard invitation. I wanted the hundreds of passers-by each day to benefit from what their eyes fell on at the stop light, whether they were looking for a church to attend or not.

My solution was to highlight the simple phrase, “come as you are” since it is not only welcoming, but is a paraphrase of the message of Jesus. I’m proud of how the banner turned out, and I am so happy to call Pittman Park my church home.

This is what love looks like

When an acquaintance found out that I was starting a new graphic design business, she set me up with two projects. She wasn’t a business owner or a marketing manager, though, she was a mom. That’s ok, we do design for moms! The projects were to bring some ideas she had to life in order to protect and support her kids.

The first idea was to create some custom shirts for her family to wear in celebration of her son’s high school graduation. She told me how proud she was of him and how hard he worked to reach this milestone. It was a really fun project, and the shirts got a lot of use throughout graduation season!

The second idea was to create a window decal for her car to indicate the status of her two kids who were learning to drive. She said they were timid about driving in traffic, and an indication on the back of the vehicle would help them feel more confident. I thought it was a great idea, and I was happy to help.

As I finished up the work, I was struck they way these projects demonstrate the love of a mother who is tuned in to what her kids need. I can’t think of a better example of what it means to be a great mom!
